Sean James, a 1996 Malone graduate (Business Administration), was a four-year letterman in football at the College. A 1991 graduate of Akron Garfield High School, James was the all-time leading tackler in Garfield’s history and earned numerous awards for his accomplishments including First Team honors for the Associated Press All NEO Inland and Beacon Journal All-City, All-County and All-District. He was also voted Honorable Mention Associated Press All-State and was a finalist for Channel 23 WAKC High School Player of the Year.

At Malone, James continued to excel on the gridiron and went on to earn numerous accolades and set many statistical records at Malone. James still easily holds the record for most tackles in a career with 413 (nearly 75 more than the next closest man) and has the most career fumble recoveries (9). He also shares the individual season record for most interceptions (5) and most fumble recoveries (4). In addition, James is still the only Pioneer football player to earn four First Team All-District/All Mid-States Football Association honors. He was also a three-time team linebacker of the year, a two-time team defensive player of the year and a two-time NAIA All-America Honorable Mention. James becomes the first football player to be inducted into the Malone Athletics Hall of Fame.

James is married to former Malone head athletic trainer Julie (Bourn) and they have two children, Kenzie (7) and Sean Michael (5). They are the owners of Angello’s 2GO Restaurant in Hartville and reside in Uniontown.
