Haas has 23 years of coaching basketball at the collegiate level to her credit, 18 years as a head coach. She coached eight years at West Virginia Wesleyan College prior to serving as the Malone women's basketball head coach for ten seasons (1991-92 to 2000-01), which is by far the longest tenure in the 31-year history of the Malone program. Haas, whose overall career record is 246-236, led her Malone team to five winning seasons including each of her last three seasons. In her last two campaigns, her teams combined for an impressive 43-16 record. Her final team earned a 21-6 record and a final NAIA Div. II national ranking of 10th. In addition, she is a five-time NCCAA East Region Coach of the Year.

Haas graduated from Fairland High School in Proctorville, Ohio and later received a B.S. in Health and Physical Education from Marshall (WV) University in 1975. Haas, a four-year letter winner in basketball at Marshall, also earned a Master of Arts in Physical Education-Pedagogy from The Ohio State University in 1978. She is currently an Associate Professor in Malone's Department of Health and Human Performance and resides in Canton.

Kathy retired from Malone in 2017 after 41 years of working in education, including 27 years as an Associate Professor within the School of Education and Human Development at the University.
