Don Green, a 1968 Malone graduate and outstanding pitcher on the Pioneer baseball team, was named All-Mid-Ohio Conference in 1965, 1967, and 1968. He was also voted to the NAIA District 22 All-Star Team in those same three seasons.
Green’s greatest accomplishment came in the ’67 season when he was selected NAIA All-American Honorable Mention. During that season, he compiled an incredible 0.68 ERA, just four earned runs in 52 innings pitched, which ranked third in the NAIA nationally that year.
For his career, his impressive stats include giving up just 124 hits in 189 innings pitched while posting an admirable 1.81 ERA. With a record of 19-5 for his four seasons, Green struck out 132 batters. Also, he gave up just 12 walks over his final two seasons.
After receiving his bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education at Malone, Green continued his education by completing master’s degrees in Secondary Education (1980) and Elementary Education (1981) at the University of Akron.
Green is currently the principal at Lorin Andrews Middle School in Massillon, Ohio. He and his wife Judy, and their two children reside in Massillon.
