Brian Ries, a 1980 Malone graduate (Social Studies Comp.), was a four-year letterman in wrestling at the College. Ries graduated from Northwest High School in 1975 and, in addition to competing in wrestling for four years, played both baseball and football for three seasons. In wrestling, he was a two-time league champion, a district champion, and a two-time district qualifier. In addition, he was a team MVP and First Team All-Senate League selection at shortstop in baseball and Honorable Mention All-Senate League (DB/WR) in football. At Malone, Ries, who posted an impressive 59-23 record in wrestling, served as a team captain for three years and was a two-time NAIA District 22 and Mid-Ohio Conference champion. Ries was a three-time NAIA national qualifier and led the Pioneers in takedowns for three years. Ries is also a member of the Stark County High School Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Ries has two children, Brianne (16) and Josh (12), and resides in Canal Fulton. He is currently an eighth-grade history teacher for Northwest Local Schools. Ries also holds a Master of Arts degree (Education) from The College of Mount St. Joseph in 1986.
