Brookes, a 1963 Malone graduate, was a four-year basketball letterman and earned the Triner Award as the team’s most outstanding player in both his sophomore and senior season. As a sophomore, he set a consecutive foul shot record and, as a junior earned All-Tournament Team honors in the first-ever Malone Basketball Invitational Tournament. He also served as the team’s honorary co-captain as a senior. 

In addition, Brookes played on Malone’s first baseball team (1963 as a pitcher and first baseman. Brookes also has a Masters in Elementary Administration from Westminster (PA) College (’70). He is currently the principal of Southern Local Primary and Southern Local Intermediate Schools. He and his wife, Janet, have three grown children and reside in Salem.
