Junior Felipe Monteiro (Sao Jose Dos Campos, Brazil), goalkeeper on the Malone University men’s soccer team, has been named Athlete of the Week for the week of October 15th-21st, after posting two shutouts in 1-0 wins over NCAA DII #23 Notre Dame College (OH) and Walsh University.
Monteiro made 12 stops Friday in the Pioneers’ upset victory over Notre Dame. The shutout marked the first time in 96 matches that Notre Dame had been shutout, a span dating back to September 12, 2008. He followed that up with another stellar performance, making seven saves in the win over conference foe Walsh on Sunday.
Monteiro has recorded a shutout in six of his last eight games. With six shutouts on the season, he sits one shy of the school record for individual shutouts in a season with at least two games to play.
