The Malone University women's golf team registered rounds of 353 and 362 on Friday and is currently in sixth place following the first day of competition at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championships. Pioneer sophomore
Christina Williams is tied for second overall with a total of 155, just one stroke off the lead with 18 holes remaining.
At the University Club of Kentucky's Wildcat Course, Malone has a team total of 715. The University of Findlay, ranked 15th in the most recent NCAA Division II National Poll, is first with a 632. Tiffin University is second with a 654 and Walsh University is third at 661.
Williams posted rounds of 75 and 80 on Friday which included two birdies. She is tied with Findlay's Makenzie Torres for second and just one shot back of the Oilers' Meredith Wipper, who is in first at 154.
Lauren Griggy is 28th among 56 competitors with a 176. She tallied rounds of 84 and 92 and notched a birdie on the fourth hole – a 378-yard par 4.
Samantha Tinsley and
Kelli Carroll are tied for 40th with scores of 192. Tinsley carded rounds of 95 and 97 with two birdies during her first 18 holes. Carroll, meanwhile, registered a 99 and 93 for her 192 total.
Michelle Lori followed with scores of 103 and 105 for a total of 208.
Madison Justice is also competing as an individual for the Pioneers. She is tied for 23rd overall with an 85 and an 88. Her opening round included a birdie on the 17th hole – a 374-yard par 4.
The G-MAC Championships will conclude with the final round on Saturday.
