First Round Results
The Malone University women's golf team opened up its fall season on Friday at Mercyhurst University's Evann Parker Memorial.
At Lake View Country Club in North East, Pennsylvania, the Pioneers registered a first-round total of 344 and sit 11 shots off first-place Gannon University, which tallied a total of 333. Host Mercyhurst is second at 335, the University of Charleston is third at 337, Notre Dame College is fourth at 339 and West Chester University is fifth, just three shots ahead of Malone at 341.
Overall, head coach
Bill Eddins was pleased with his team's start.
"We had a typical first round of the season," commented Eddins. "The greens are really fast and we need to adjust to them. There were a lot of good shots and a lot of shots we will improve on with experience and confidence. I'm proud of how our team persevered today. We are a really young team and we will continue to improve every time we play."
Individually, sophomore
Lauren Griggy paced the Pioneers with an 80, the best round of her collegiate career. Griggy is in fifth place overall, five shots back of the overall leader, Charleston's Sarah Feizal.
Christina Williams was next for the Pioneers. The sophomore is currently tied for seventh with a score of 83.
Freshman
Madison Justice is tied for 34th with a score of 90,
Kelli Carroll is tied for 36th with a 91 and freshman
Grace Bartlow posted a score of 101.
The Evann Parker Memorial will conclude with the final round on Saturday.
