Pioneers Defeat Saginaw Valley and Loses to Wayne State in Match Play; B-Team Through 18 at Mount Union

LANCASTER, Ohio & ALLIANCE, Ohio - The Malone University men's golf team competed in multiple events on Saturday, including the Bill Blazer Memorial Match Play and Mount Union Spring Invitational.
 
At the match play event hosted by Ohio Dominican University, the Pioneers were able to defeat Saginaw Valley State University 4-1 in the opening match of the day. Jaxon Rinkes pulled away with victories on holes 13 and 16 to secure the team's first point. A key birdie for Camden Horning on hole 17 led him to an individual victory. Fletcher Cravens had to go to a playoff and recorded a par on the 18th hole to seal the win. Alfie Cracker won his matchup as well for the team win in the first round.
 
In round two, Malone took on Wayne State University and lost by the same score of 4-1. Cracker brought home the only individual win for the Pioneers after he pulled away from his opponent early. He was up four strokes by hole eight and mathematically eliminate his foe with a win on the 15th hole.
 
On Sunday, April 12, Malone will do battle with Lewis University in the third-place match.
 
The Pioneer B-team took the course closer to home at Tannenhauf Golf Club. Malone is in fourth-place through 18 holes at 309. John Carroll University leads at the halfway point with a team score of 296.
 
Brady Johnson is in the top-five with two birdies on the back nine en route to a 74. Cadyn Boyd is 13th at 77 and Dylan Maninga and Easton Hamrick are tied for 20th with 79's. That event continues on Sunday, April 12 as well.
