The Malone University women's golf team trimmed two strokes off its day-one score, carding a round of 327 on Sunday to secure a 10th-place finish at Lewis University's Perry Park Spring Fling.
In a strong 18-team field, the Pioneers moved up the leaderboard in the final round, ending the weekend with a two-round total of 656 (329-327). Host Lewis was 11th at 663 (324-339) and Bellarmine University and Ohio Dominican University tied for 13th at 666.
The University of Findlay won the event at 609 (311-298), the University of Missouri St. Louis was second at 614 (305-309) and NCAA Division I Eastern Michigan University was third at 620 (308-312).
"We are really proud of our team and the way we competed against some of the best programs in NCAA Division II and NCAA Division I Eastern Michigan," commented head coach
Bill Eddins.
"We are playing very good golf and we are especially happy with the consistency we are showing. We feel our best golf is still ahead of us!"
Sophomore
Christina Williams collected All-Tournament Team honors for Malone by tying for fifth overall with a score of 152 (76-76). Williams' round on Sunday included two birdies as she finished just two shots behind the event winner.
Sophomore
Lauren Griggy was next for the Pioneers, posting a score of 82 on Sunday for an overall total of 165 (83-82). Freshman
Madison Justice also trimmed a stroke off her day-one score as she posted a 169 (85-84).
Freshman
Samantha Tinsley posted a collegiate-best round of 85 on Sunday, finishing the event at 171 (86-85) and senior
Kelli Carroll was right behind with a 172 (85-87).
