The Malone University softball team came out victorious in both games on the second day of the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Monday. Malone's first game of the day was against Robert Morris University (IL) and finished with a 9-2 score, while the Pioneers played Ohio Valley University (WV) in the second game, winning by a 9-1 score.
Malone will be back in action on Tuesday as the team plays Alderson Broaddus University (WV) at 9:30 a.m. and Waldorf College (IA) at 11:30 a.m. at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic.
Game One:In the top of the first inning, the Eagles scored their first run off a walk and then scored their second run off a sacrifice fly to take an early 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the first inning,
Alexa Holztrager doubled to left field, allowing
Emily Isla to cross the plate to cut the deficit to 2-1. Later in the inning,
Ashley Beck singled to the shortstop to bring Holztrager across the plate, tying the game at 2-2.
Freshmen
Kerri Manley collected the first RBI of her career as she singled up the middle, bringing
Shelby Hulin home to score the third run of the game in the bottom of the third inning to make it a 3-1 game.
The Pioneers never looked back as they went on to score six more runs during the next four innings to seal the 9-2 victory.
Game One Highlights:-
Kari Hall continues to have the hot hand as she threw a new career-high 13 strikeouts on the day. She has totaled 22 strikeouts in two days.
-Isla played exceptional as she went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, while scoring two runs, a triple and a RBI.
-Manley went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate and tallied a RBI.
-Hulin went 2-for-3 at the plate and tallied two runs scored.
-Malone registered a season-high 20 hits.
Game Two:Malone came out blazing as they scored seven runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a convincing 7-0 lead.
In the top of the third inning,
Kerri Manley registered her second run scored in the game to extend the lead to 8-0.
Juliana Shultes singled to center field to drive
Caley Ritts across the plate in the top of the fifth inning, increasing the lead to 9-0.
Ohio Valley would get on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning, but it wouldn't be enough as Malone cruised to a 9-1 victory in five innings.
Game Two Highlights:-Manley went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate and collected two runs scored.
-Ritts went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, tallying two runs scored and one RBI.
-Isla went 2-for-3 at the plate, collecting two RBI's, one double, and a run scored.
-Fowler went 2-for-4 at the plate, notching one run scored and one RBI.

Kari Hall pitched the first two innings, registering three strikeouts before freshman
Faith Freeman came in as a reliever to pitch the last three innings and collect her first win in the circle.
