The Malone University softball team beat future Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) opponent Alderson Broaddus University (WV) 8-4 in their first game, while losing a heartbreaking 7-5 contest to Waldorf College (IA) in their second game at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Wednesday.
Malone will play Wilkes University (PA) at 5:30 p.m. and Clarion University (PA) at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday to wrap up its trip to the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic trip in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Game One:The Battlers racked up their first run in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead.
The Pioneers answered right back to tally two runs in the second inning and three runs in the fourth inning to make it a 5-1 contest.
Alderson Broaddus scored its second run off a sacrifice bunt to make it a 5-2 contest in the bottom of the fifth inning.
In the top of the sixth inning, Malone's
Allison Mercado singled through the left side to drive
Emily Isla across the plate to increase the lead to 6-2. Later,
Caley Ritts grounded out to the second basemen, allowing
Alexa Holztrager to score another run to make it a 7-2 game.
The Battlers came back to score another run in the bottom of the sixth inning, making it a 7-3 score.
Isla would then drill her second double of the season to drive
Mikayla Fowler across the plate in the top of the seventh inning.
The Battlers got another run in the bottom of the seventh inning, but it wouldn't be enough as Malone sealed the 8-4 victory.
Game One Highlights:-The hot hitting continued for the Pioneers as they collected 15 base hits.

Kari Hall continued to dominate in the circle as she registered seven strikeouts.
-Isla played excellent as she went 4-of-5 at the plate, notching two RBI's, two runs scored, and one double.
-Mercado went 2-of-4 at the plate and registered two RBI's.

Emily Beck went 2-of-4 at the plate and collected one run scored.
Game Two:The first three innings were quiet for both teams, but the runs started coming in the fourth inning.
In the top of the fourth inning, Waldorf would be the first team to score, making it a 1-0 lead.
Then, Holztrager collected her first triple of the season, allowing Fowler to score. On the next play, Mercado grounded out to shortstop, driving Holztrager to the plate and giving Malone a 2-1 advantage.
The Warriors marched back to tally two more runs in the top of the fifth inning to retake the lead, 4-2.
Malone regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning by driving in three more runs to make it a one run game, 5-4.
With two runners on base, Waldorf's Jessica Abrahamson notched a home run to regain the lead 7-5 in the top of the seventh.
The Pioneers would have one more chance to take the victory, but they weren't able to convert any runs, giving the Warriors the 7-5 win.
Game Two Highlights:-Holztrager went 2-for-3 at the plate, collected two runs scored, an RBI and a triple.
-Mercado recorded three RBI's and a double.
-Fowler went 2-for-4 at the plate.
-Hall registered five strikeouts. She has recorded 36 total strikeouts on the season. Â Â
