Box Score
A strong second half showing sparked the Malone University women's basketball team to a solid 64-52 victory at Ursuline College Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Pioneers improved to 8-9 overall on the season while the Arrows dropped to 6-9.
A nip and tuck first half that had seven ties, with neither team leading by more than four points until the final 30 seconds of the frame, saw the host Arrows grab a three-point 27-24 halftime advantage. But Malone quickly responded by going on a strong 17-2 run in the first seven minutes of the final half. With a 12-point 41-29 lead at that point, the visitors managed to maintain their sizable lead until Ursuline did make a bit of run to bring the Arrow deficit to just six points, at 52-46, with just over four minutes left. The Pioneers would not allow a host comeback, though, as they pulled away down the stretch to pocket the 64-52 win.
Malone held a slight edge in overall shooting percentage, connecting on 38.3% (23-60) of its field goal tries, while Ursuline sank 35.6% (21-59) of its attempts. Neither team shot well from long range with the Pioneers dropping in four of 22 attempts for 18.2% and the Arrows hitting two of 13 for 15.4%. At the free throw line, the hosts had the slightly better percentage at 80.0% (8-10) but Malone sank more shots, converting 14 of 19 for 73.7%. In addition, the host Arrows held a slim 41-38 advantage on the boards.
