Jake Shoup Tabbed as Head Women's Basketball Coach at Malone

07/06/26

CANTON, Ohio - Malone University and Director of Athletics Tanya Hockman have announced Jake Shoup as the 17th Head Women's Basketball Coach in program history. Shoup takes over a program that made the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championship with an overall record of 25-7 one season ago. He is an alum of Malone from the class of 2020.

"Jake embodies Malone's core values and brings a clear, competitive vision to our women's basketball program," Hockman said. "Dedicated to both athletic excellence and spiritual growth, he is an eager leader ready for this next professional chapter. We have full confidence in his character and commitment to faith-based athletics."

Shoup spent the past three seasons at the helm of the Norwayne Varsity Girls' Basketball program. The Bobcats appeared in back-to-back Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) State Semifinals and were runners-up in the 2025 State Final. Norwayne won two regional titles, two district titles and the school's first girls' basketball conference title in the Wayne County Athletic League (WCAL) since 1986. Shoup was selected as the 2026 Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association (OHSBCA) State Coach of the Year as well as the 2026 WCAL Coach of the Year and led the Bobcats to a 64-17 overall record in his tenure.

"I am incredibly honored and grateful for the opportunity to serve as the Head Women's Basketball Coach at Malone University," Shoup beamed. "Malone has played a significant role in shaping my life, and it is a privilege to give back to a place that has had such a profound impact on me. I look forward to building upon a program so deeply rooted in faith, excellence, and genuine relationships while continuing the tradition of developing student-athletes who make a lasting impact both on and off the court."
