Malone Suffers Pair Of Three-Set Defeats On Day Two Of IWU/Taylor Tournament

The Pioneers completed their tough weekend schedule with losses to Olivet Nazarene and Indiana Tech

The Malone University volleyball team concluded its weekend trip to Indiana on Saturday with two more contests at the Indiana Wesleyan University/Taylor University Crossover Tournament. After facing a pair of teams that were ranked in the NAIA Top 25 Preseason National Poll on Friday (No. 21 Indiana Wesleyan, No. 22. Georgetown), the level of competition on day two of the event did not let up as the Pioneers dropped both of Saturday's matches in three sets. Malone fell to Olivet Nazarene (IL) University (received votes in the national poll) in the opener 25-21, 25-13, 26-24 before enduring a 25-17, 25-18, 25-17 defeat to NAIA #17 Indiana Tech in the finale. Following Saturday's results, Malone's overall record now stands at 1-3.

The Pioneers will be back in action on Tuesday when the squad travels to NCAA Division II Tiffin University for a 7:00 p.m. contest.

In Saturday's opener against ONU, outside hitter Megan Fisher paced the Pioneer attack with eight kills and seven digs. Setter Jackie Schwamberger notched 17 assists with four kills. Outside hitter Taylor Slauterbeck added three kills with seven digs. Middle hitter Hannah Haver posted three kills with one solo block and one block assist while libero Allison Kirby contributed a team-high eight digs.

Against Indiana Tech in the weekend finale, Fisher ripped 10 kills to go with one service ace, six digs and a block assist. Haver followed with seven kills while Slauterbeck recorded six kills and three digs. Schwamberger posted 27 assists, two kills and a team-high nine digs.
