Malone Picks Up Road Win Over Mount Union

Middle hitter Lauren Townley registered a season-high 13 kills in Tuesday's victory at Mt. Union.

The Malone University volleyball team continued its lengthy stretch of early-season matches away from Osborne Hall Tuesday night as the squad travelled to Alliance, Ohio where it picked up a four-set victory over the University of Mt. Union.  With the 25-23, 25-23, 24-26, 25-23 win, the Pioneers' pushed their overall record to the .500 mark, improving to 5-5 on the season.  The Purple Raiders, meanwhile, fell to 7-3 with the closely-contested defeat.

Outside hitter Megan Fisher and middle hitter Hannah Haver led all attackers in the match with 14 kills apiece.  Fisher also posted eight digs with one service ace and a block assist.  Haver added 12 digs, a service ace and one block assist.  Middle hitter Lauren Townley followed closely with 13 kills.  Setter Jackie Schwamberger handed out 50 assists and scooped up 10 digs while outside hitter Taylor Slauterbeck contributed 11 kills, two service aces and seven digs.

Malone will wrap-up its tough string of 14 straight matches away from Osborne Hall over the weekend as it takes part in four contests at a crossover tournament in upstate New York that is being co-hosted by Roberts Wesleyan College and Houghton College.  The Pioneers will play all of their matches on Houghton's campus, starting on Friday with a 5:00 p.m. match-up against Trinity International (IL) University.  Malone will then play the host Highlanders at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening.  On Saturday, the squad will take on Mountain State (WV) University at 11:00 a.m. before wrapping up the day with a 1:00 p.m. contest against Michigan-Dearborn.

The Pioneers will host their home opener on Tuesday, September 20th at 7:00 p.m. against Cedarville University.
