The Malone University women's basketball team suffered a 77-66 defeat in its match-up with NAIA Division II No. 8 Concordia (MI) University on Friday evening at the Huntington (IN) University Classic.
The Pioneers held a six-point lead midway through the first half before the Cardinals clawed back, outscoring Malone 18-6 over the final nine minutes of the opening period to take a 41-33 advantage into the locker room at halftime. Concordia then pulled away in the second stanza, stretching its lead to as many as 25 points with just under five minutes to play. The Pioneers closed the game on a 15-2 scoring run, but it was not enough to overcome the sizable second-half deficit. Malone's overall mark fell to 0-3 with the loss while Concordia remained undefeated, improving to 6-0.
On the evening, the Pioneers connected on 41.8% (23 of 55) of their field-goal attempts, 38.9% (7 of 18) of their three-pointers and 72.2% (13 of 18) of their foul shots. The Cardinals countered by knocking down 40% (26 of 65) of their shots from the field, 31.3% (five of 16) of their treys and 76.9% (20 of 26) of their free throws. Concordia enjoyed a 43-33 edge in total rebounds, including a 20-11 advantage on the offensive glass. The Cardinals also grabbed 10 steals while forcing a total of 18 Malone turnovers.

Sara Tucke tallied a career-high 15 points off the bench after connecting on four of seven three-point attempts. Forward

Cindy Netti each registered eight points with Penn also contributing five assists and three boards.
Forward Hannah Sabol anchored the Cardinals' attack with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Brittany Simmons also made solid contributions with 15 points and five assists.
Malone will conclude its trip to the Huntington Classic on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. contest against Indiana Tech. The Warriors, 5-0 overall, topped the host Foresters in Friday's opener by a final tally of 66-63.
