Box Score

The Malone University women's basketball team fell 80-53 at NCAA Division II Ohio Valley (WV) University Tuesday evening as the Fighting Scots took command early on by outscoring the Pioneers 19-5 over the first five minutes of the contest. A jumper by guard Amy Kittle cut the deficit to 19-7 moments later but Malone was unable to get any closer the rest of the way. Ohio Valley took a 40-26 advantage to the locker room at intermission and then maintained its substantial lead for the remainder of the contest. The Fighting Scots improved to 5-3 overall with the win while the Pioneers dropped to 3-7.

OVU's solid defense played a huge role in Tuesday's outcome as the Fighting Scots grabbed 17 steals and blocked seven Malone shots while limiting the Pioneers to 30.8% (16 of 52) shooting from the field, including 21.7% (five of 23) accuracy from three-point range. Although Ohio Valley made just four of nine (44.9%) free throws, the hosts made up for it from the floor, hitting 34 of 75 (45.3%) field goals, including eight of 24 (33.3%) treys.

Malone drained 16 of 22 (72.7%) attempts from the foul line but this strong showing from the charity stripe was not enough to overcome the Fighting Scots' tough inside prescence as OVU held a 44-35 advantage in total rebounds and outscored the Pioneers by 48-10 margin in the paint.

Guard Trisha Seilhamer paced Malone with 11 points. Forward Sarah VanVoorhis came off the bench to toss in 10 points and grab seven rebounds. Forward Alison Schloz posted eight points with five rebounds and two blocked shots.  Kittle ended the night with seven points while guard Allyson Wilson contributed six points, six boards and two steals.

Guard Alana Auld led the way for the Fighting Scots with 21 points. Forward Amber Avery followed with 19 points, eight rebounds and four steals.

The Pioneers will look to bounce back on Saturday when they travel to NCAA Division II Ohio Dominican University for a 2:00 p.m. non-conference game. A live audio broadcast of the contest will be available on WNPQ 95.9 FM and on the internet at www.thelight959.com.
