Box Score
The Malone University women's basketball team fell 80-53 at NCAA Division II Ohio Valley (WV) University Tuesday evening as the Fighting Scots took command early on by outscoring the Pioneers 19-5 over the first five minutes of the contest. A jumper by guard
Amy Kittle cut the deficit to 19-7 moments later but Malone was unable to get any closer the rest of the way. Ohio Valley took a 40-26 advantage to the locker room at intermission and then maintained its substantial lead for the remainder of the contest. The Fighting Scots improved to 5-3 overall with the win while the Pioneers dropped to 3-7.
OVU's solid defense played a huge role in Tuesday's outcome as the Fighting Scots grabbed 17 steals and blocked seven Malone shots while limiting the Pioneers to 30.8% (16 of 52) shooting from the field, including 21.7% (five of 23) accuracy from three-point range. Although Ohio Valley made just four of nine (44.9%) free throws, the hosts made up for it from the floor, hitting 34 of 75 (45.3%) field goals, including eight of 24 (33.3%) treys.
Malone drained 16 of 22 (72.7%) attempts from the foul line but this strong showing from the charity stripe was not enough to overcome the Fighting Scots' tough inside prescence as OVU held a 44-35 advantage in total rebounds and outscored the Pioneers by 48-10 margin in the paint.
