Concordia Pulls Away Early For 90-58 Win Over Malone

The Malone University women's basketball team suffered a tough 90-58 loss on the road Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference game at Concordia (MI) University. The host Cardinals took command of the contest in the early going by jumping out to a 20-6 lead. Concordia stretched its advantage to 45-26 at the half and then managed to maintain its sizable lead over the final 20 minutes. The Pioneers' overall record fell to 4-10 with the defeat while the Cardinals, who were listed among those receiving votes in the most recent NAIA Division II National Poll, improved to 9-5.

Concordia dominated inside during Tuesday's match-up, outscoring Malone by a 46-18 margin in the paint while blocking 13 Pioneer shot attempts and holding a 48-42 advantage in total rebounds. The Cardinals also came up with 10 steals and forced 19 Malone turnovers. On the afternoon, Concordia knocked down 49.3% (36 of 73) of its shots from the field, 43.8% (seven of 16) of its three-pointers and 78.6% (11 of 14) of its free throws. The Pioneers hit six of 17 (35.3%) attempts from beyond the three-point line but struggled inside the arc and at the foul line, hitting just 19 of their 63 (30.2%) field-goal tries and 14 of their 23 (60.9%) free throws.

Guard Amy Kittle led the way for Malone with 16 points. Guard Allyson Wilson followed with 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. Guard Trisha Seilhamer added eight points while forward Tara Kies came off the bench to contribute seven points and three blocked shots.

Forward Hannah Sabol paced the Cardinals with 18 points and eight boards. Forward Brittany Simmons added 17 points, four blocks, three assists and three steals.

The Pioneers will look to bounce back on Wednesday afternoon when they return to Concordia's Cardinal Field House for a 2:00 p.m. neutral-site contest against Spring Arbor (MI) University (7-8 overall).
