Grimes, a sophomore from Canton (Heritage Christian H.S.), broke Malone's indoor 600-meter record on Saturday afternoon at the Spire Midwest Open as she placed second overall among 32 competitors with a mark of 1:36.34.

The performance surpassed the previous school record of 1:37.72 that was set by Ashton Avery in 2011.

Grimes was also a member of the Pioneers' 4 x 400-meter relay team that placed third among 19 squads with a time of 4:00.70.
