Oprean, a senior from Canton, Ohio (Canton Central Catholic H.S.), recently made Pioneer athletics history as she became the school's first-ever NCAA All-American in any sport by placing 38th in a time of 21.47.9 at the NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championships in Spokane, Washington last Saturday.
At the Plantes Ferry Sports Complex in Spokane, Oprean covered the 6K course in impressive fashion as she finished among the top 40 runners in the national championship race, with 244 athletes competing, to earn the prestigious and ground-breaking All-America honor for Malone University athletics. Her time was just one second faster than the 40th and final All-American finisher who posted a time of 21.48.9.
