Smith, a senior from Massillon (Perry H.S.), blazed to a second-place finish in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.17 seconds at the Youngstown State University Invitational last Friday.

The time is the second-fastest ever in Malone history (8.15, J. Legrair) and is currently the 17^th-best time in NCAA Division II and a national provisional qualifying time
