CANTON, Ohio - Head Coach
Bill Eddins of Malone University women's golf has announced the hiring of new assistant coach,
Thom Grubb. Grubb has Malone roots as a graduate in 1990. His son Jordan and daughters Megan and Laurie played golf for the Pioneers. Grubb's wife, Tamara (Talkington), is also a Malone graduate with a degree in education.
Â
Grubb brings a wealth of experience to the program. A retired teacher of Lake Local Schools, he remains the head boy's golf coach at Lake where he has been head coach since 2000. His teams have produced 11 Federal League Championships and six of those teams went on to compete at the Ohio High School Athletics Association (OHSAA) State Championships. Additionally, Grubb has led three individuals all the way to Columbus in state competition.
Â
Grubb possesses outstanding character traits that will be a real asset to the program. He has tremendous leadership qualities and will be instrumental in practice planning, course management, psychology of coaching and recruitment as well. Grubb values relationships and has an extensive network around the state. He has organized and conducted numerous successful golf clinics including other major fundraising events that have supported team expenses beyond the school's budget.
Â
"We are so excited to welcome
Thom Grubb back to Malone to be part of our women's golf program. He understands Malone and will be a great asset for us on and off the course," Eddins shared.
Â
"I am all-in and can't wait to get started. We are going to advance the program and make history by getting a team to the NCAA tournament, and I am looking forward to being part of that," Grubb said. "I'm so excited to come back to Malone where I graduated in 1990. My son Jordan (Business) played for four years for Coach Hyland and my daughters, Megan and Laurie (Nursing), each played golf here," Grubb said.
Â
Grubb will be active this summer recruiting and planning for when the team returns to campus in August.
