G-MAC Announces Men's Soccer Preseason Poll

08/26/25

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Malone University men's soccer team finished 11th in the 2025 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) preseason coaches poll.

Tiffin University was chosen as the preseason favorite with six first-place votes and 105 points. The University of Findlay was second with four first-place votes and 94 points, followed by Lake Erie College (90 points), Ashland University (77 points) and Thomas More University (74 points). The Saints of Thomas More collected the final first-place vote in the league.

The Pioneers, led by Head Coach Bill Lawrence, held a record of 5-9-3 last season. The team got off to a great start one year ago at 3-1-1, but struggled down the stretch when conference play arrived. Malone did well away from home with a 4-4-1 record when not playing at King Field.

Caleb Redding netted three goals last season and returns for his sophomore campaign in 2025. Redding and senior Dylan DiPiero had six points apiece to lead all returners. Junior Nate Werthmuller had three assists from the midfield one season ago, the most of returning players. Werthmuller played 1,235 minutes to lead 2025 returnees. Senior Andres Eizaga earned G-MAC Offensive Athlete of the Week honors after he scored twice in the season finale win over Walsh University is back as well.

The defense for the Pioneers is where you might find a variety of new faces, whether freshman, transfer or returning student-athlete with an increased role. There are three freshmen, a junior transfer and senior Gabriel de la Barra who returns from the 2024 squad as goalkeepers.

The roster makeup for 2025 consists of seven seniors, five juniors, seven sophomores and 19 freshmen. The senior class is de la Barra, DiPiero, Eizaga, Anthony Birus, Jayden Fuller, Mason Gradel and Luke Miller.

The season gets underway on September 4 with a home match against Roberts Wesleyan University. Kick-off is slated for 7:30 P.M.
