Pioneers Drop Home Opener to Redhawks 1-0

CANTON, Ohio - The Malone University men's soccer team began their 2025 season under the lights on King Field on Thursday night in a non-conference match with the Roberts Wesleyan University Redhawks. Malone fought hard in a close back and forth match, but fell 1-0 thanks to a 78th minute goal from the opponents.

The first half was a physical battle for both teams as they finished tied at 0-0. Both teams were nearly equal in time of possession in the period. Roberts Wesleyan slightly bested Malone in the shots category in the first half with five compared to their four.

The second half remained a close and physical contest as both sides worked hard, but struggled to gain a significant advantage on the board. In the 78th minute, the Redhawks took the lead with a goal that just snuck past junior goalkeeper Sam Cipriano. The Pioneers would continue to battle to the final whistle with a handful of attempts on goals, coming up short in the end to the Redhawks.

The goalies were solid for both squads each finishing with three saves a piece. Both teams tied with shots on goal at four a piece and three corner kicks.

Malone looks to regroup as they take on Daemen University at home for their second game of the season on Saturday, September 6 at 1:00 P.M.
