CANTON, Ohio – The Malone University men's soccer team hosted a non-conference game on Saturday. The visiting Daemen University took home a 3-1 victory and are 1-1-0 overall. The Pioneers fall to 0-2-0.
The first half started slow for both teams with the Wildcats getting one shot off. After a Malone substitution,
Konstantinos Panagiotou was able to score his first career goal. This was the first goal of the game in the 26th minute which was set up by a
Dylan DiPiero cross and deflection by a defender and the goalkeeper.
Daemen was able to answer quickly with a goal in the 30th minute.
Jayden Fuller and
Caleb Redding were both able to get shots off before the end of the half, but found the net. At the end of the half, the score was 1-1.
Daemen's second goal came in the 63rd minute due to a defensive breakdown by the Pioneers close to their own goal.
Ryan Ziskowski attempted to answer with a shot but it was too far left. Another shot for Malone came from
Thembani Phoya in the 71st minute. This was saved by the Wildcats goalkeeper.
To make the final score 3-1, Daemen scored their last goal off a penalty kick in the 75th minute.
Silas Coleman and
Tiago Palhetas were able to shoot for an attempt to give them another goal but the Wildcats were able to run out the rest of the clock with a two-goal advantage.
The Pioneers had a total of 14 shots compared to Daemen's 11. Malone's
Sam Cipriano (0-2-0) had five saves and the Wildcats had three. Cipriano played the entire 90 minutes along with Ziskowski and Redding.
Next, Malone will travel to California University of Pennsylvania for another non-conference game. Kick-off will start at 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 10.
