CANTON – Today, Malone University head volleyball coach
Rafael Gonzalez announced the newest member of this year's recruiting class.
Gabi Smith, a 6'0 middle hitter from Northridge High School in Johnstown, Ohio has signed with the Pioneers.
Much like she did in high school, Smith will play in the middle for the Pioneers. Off the court, the Distinguished Scholar/ Honor Roll student plans to major in Early Childhood Education.
Smith's high school accolades include: First Team All-District, First Team All-LCL, District All-Star, team captain, Northridge High's offensive player of the year, and breaking the school record with 111 blocks in 2021. In 2020 she was named Second Team All-LCL, and won the Northridge most improved award.
Her team finished as the LCL champions, district champions, and regional runner-up in 2020. In 2021 they won a sectional title en route to a district runner-up finish.
"I am really excited to add Gabbi to our Pioneer family, said Gonzalez. "Her athleticism will help our depth at the middle blocker position."
