Academic All-District Teams
Malone University junior golfer
Christina Williams has been selected to the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-District At-Large Team, the organization announced on Thursday afternoon.
The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. District 4 represents universities from the three conferences in the Midwest Region (G-MAC, GLIAC, and GLVC).
The At-Large Team is chosen among nominees from the following NCAA sports: beach volleyball, bowling, rowing, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming & diving, tennis, and water polo.
Williams, from Medina, Ohio and Highland High School, is one of just 10 student-athletes, and one of only two non-seniors, selected to the Academic All-District 4 At-Large Team. Those 10 are now eligible for Academic All-American consideration. That award will be announced in June.
Williams, a two-time G-MAC All-Conference selection, was an NCAA Super-Region qualifier in 2019, placing 17th overall in a loaded field with rounds of 79-75-79. She is the first-ever Pioneer to compete in the NCAA DII East Regional.
Last fall, Williams produced a 75.9 scoring average across 10 rounds spanning five events. She registered four top-10 finishes, including a solo 2nd at the G-MAC Fall Preview and victories at the Cumberland Trail Classic and the Phipps Memorial.
At the CT Classic, Williams set school records for 18 holes (68) and 36 holes (139) as she carded a five-under par and claimed a three-shot victory in a field of 91 golfers. To date, she owns 11 of the top 12 rounds in Malone women's golf history.
In the classroom, Christina carries a 3.93 GPA while studying Accounting and Business Administration. She is the Co-President of Malone SAAC, a two-time G-MAC All-Academic, and a WGCA All-American Scholar.
From Malone women's golf coach
Bill Eddins:
"Christina is the epitome of a student-athlete. She has an incredible work ethic and a clear understanding of the value of time management. Christina is highly motivated and thrives due to her positive attitude, uncommon work ethic and desire for excellence. This is a well-deserved honor and we could not be more proud of her accomplishments on and off the golf course."
