FIVE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE PIONEERS
- After some reshuffling of the schedule due to the ongoing CoVID-19 pandemic, the Pioneers were able to open up their season Saturday at Hillsdale College. The short notice change of opponent seemed to have little effect on the Pioneers however. The lead changed hands several times over a back-and-forth first half, but Malone took control midway through the third quarter. They never looked back on their way to an 84-76 win.
-
Holly Groff paced Malone with a game-high 27 points on Saturday. She was 5-7 shooting from beyond the three-point line. After the opening weekend of conference play that puts her at second overall in the G-MAC in scoring.
-
In the win over the Chargers, Madison Hunter scored a career-high 16 points, including shooting a perfect 5-5 from the charity stripe.
-
Alexis Hutchison and Robin Campbell headlined the defensive effort for Malone with a combined nine steals. They also scored 15 and 10 points respectively to round out the double-digit scorers for the Pioneers.
-
The Pioneers forced 26 Charger turnovers, which they converted into 24 points on the other end of the floor.
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT
Tiffin opened up their season on December 5 with a 65-56 win over Ohio Dominican University.
Aarion Nichols led the Dragons with a game-high 19 points, and also pulled down 10 rebounds to start off the season with a double-double.
Jada Tate and Savannah Richards each had 11 points to round-out the double-digit scorers for Tiffin.
The Dragons' defense forced 16 turnovers that led to 21 points on the other end of the floor. They also outrebounded ODU 49-39.
WHAT'S NEXT
As has become common early on in the season, there has been a change from the original schedule. Due to CoVID-19 protocols within the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, Malone will not be making their originally scheduled trip to Trevecca Nazarene University and Kentucky Wesleyan College this weekend.
Instead, the Pioneers will be on the road Saturday at Cedarville University. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 p.m.
