Malone University freshman point guard
Robin Campbell was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the first time in her promising career on Monday following a pair of outstanding individual performances in two games for the Pioneers last week in which she averaged a double-double.
Â
Against first-place Cedarville on Wednesday, Campbell, a native of Alliance, Ohio (Marlington High School) scored a game-high 17 points, including an 11-for-11 performance at the free-throw line. The 5'4" guard also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds, handed out three assists, and recorded a steal, although the Pioneers ultimately lost to the Yellow Jackets, 79-61.
Â
Malone bounced back in a big way on Saturday as Campbell sparked the Pioneers to their fifth win of the season, a 72-62 triumph over visiting Tiffin. Once again, Campbell paced her team with a game-high 19 points and she recorded her second double-double of the season, coming down with a career-high 12 rebounds. She also nearly achieved the rare triple-double, finishing with a career-high eight assists – all eight of which came during the first half.
Â
Across the two games, Campbell averaged 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 5.5 assists on her way to the G-MAC Player of the Week honor. On the season, she is third in the G-MAC in minutes played (35.4 mpg), fifth in assists (3.6 apg), ninth in scoring (13.4 ppg), and 11th in rebounding (5.9). She leads the Pioneers in all four categories.
Â
Malone, who is 5-9 on the season and 3-5 in the G-MAC, travels to North Canton this Saturday, January 12th to meet rival Walsh for a critical conference matchup.
