Malone University senior
Ashton Dulin traveled to southern California this week to compete in the NFLPA (National Football League Players Association) Collegiate Bowl which takes place on Saturday, January 19th at the historic Rose Bowl in Pasadena. Saturday's game kicks off at 5:00 pm Eastern (2:00 pm Pacific) and will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 1 (FS1).
Â
The NFLPA Collegiate Bowl is a premier postseason All-Star game for draft-eligible college football players. Outside of the All-Star game, invitees will be provided a week-long experience and a chance to showcase their talents to NFL scouts and coaches while learning from the best in the business. Nearly 200 scouts, player personnel staff, general managers, and head coaches from all 32 NFL teams are expected be in attendance to watch live practices, conduct player interviews, and review tape.
Â
Two 56-man rosters for the game were announced last week. Dulin was selected to the National Team, which is led by former NFL head coach Mike Tice. The American Team is led by former NFL head coach Chuck Pagano. Coincidentally, the National Team has won each of the previous seven NFLPA contests.
Â
Dulin is one of nine receivers on the National Team. He will be catching passes this week from NFL prospect quarterbacks Jake Browning (Washington), Brent Stockstill (Middle Tennessee State), and Amir Hall (Bowie State). Browning led Washington to a Rose Bowl Game appearance against Ohio State earlier this month, Stockstill ranked third in the FBS in completion percentage, and Hall led NCAA Division II in passing yards.
Â
Dulin and Hall are among 13 Division II players invited to play in the game. The majority of 112 athletes selected to participate played their college football at the FBS or FCS levels. Of the 112 players who played in last season's NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, 19 were selected in the NFL Draft.
Â
This past fall, Dulin caught 61 passes for 984 yards (16.1 ypc) and 11 touchdowns, carried the ball 13 times for 120 yards and a score, and returned 28 kickoffs for 836 yards (29.9 avg) and a DII-leading three touchdowns. Altogether, Dulin racked up 1,947 all-purpose yards and 15 total touchdowns. He ranked second in DII in all-purpose yards per game (194.7) and ranked first among all wide receivers at all four levels of NCAA football (FBS, FCS, DII, or DIII).
