Malone Wins Three-Setter Against Alderson Broaddus

The Malone University volleyball team secured a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) East Division victory Friday night in Osborne Hall, outscoring Alderson Broaddus University 25-11, 25-15, 25-20 in a three-set sweep. The win improved Malone to 6-6 on the season and 2-2 in the G-MAC while the Battlers dropped to 6-7 on the season and 2-4 in conference.

In a dominant first set, Malone out-hit Alderson Broaddus .344 to -.029 as the Pioneers posted six total blocks and Faith Lau collected five of the Pioneers' 13 kills. Malone then rode the momentum of a 7-0 Sydney Black service run early in the second set to widen the gap and take a two sets to none lead.
 
Malone never trailed by more than two points in the final frame. After facing a 7-5 deficit, the Pioneers used an 8-2 run to take a 13-9 lead. The Battlers never came closer than three points for the duration of the frame as Malone rolled to its second-straight sweep against G-MAC East opposition.
 
Hannah Eliason and Veronica Gehring each recorded a team-high nine kills to lead the Malone attack, which posted a season-high .307 attacking percentage. Faith Lau and Mallory Adams provided seven kills apiece while Adams tallied three service aces. Cathryn Miller totaled a team-high 16 assists over the first two sets. Abbie Swaino added eight assists in the third frame.
 
Adams registered six blocks on the defensive side of the net, marking the second-most in a match this season. Right side hitter Rachel Santos added three blocks. In the back row, Maggie Hamrock collected a team-high 13 digs while Sydney Black scooped up nine attacks.
