The Malone University volleyball team completed a 2-0 weekend with a 25-12, 25-12, 21-25, 25-17 victory over Davis & Elkins College Saturday afternoon in Osborne Hall. With the win, Malone climbed to 7-6 on the season and 3-2 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, including a 3-0 mark against G-MAC East Division opposition. Following Friday night's win over Alderson Broaddus, Malone has now won consecutive matches for the first time this season.

The Pioneers were exceptional in the first two sets, producing a .426 attacking percentage with 29 kills and just three attack errors, two of which came on Davis & Elkins blocks, on 61 swings. Malone displayed its dominance in the second set, ending the frame on a 21-3 run.

Tanya Hockman went deep in her bench during a closely-contested third set that featured 10 ties and six lead changes. The two teams saw themselves tied for the sixth time at 19-19 before the Senators (4-7, 1-4 G-MAC) tallied six of the final eight points to force a fourth frame.

Facing a 9-8 deficit in the clinching set, the Pioneers pulled away with a pair of 5-0 service runs by
Faith Lau and
Mallory Adams as Malone cruised to the four-set triumph.

Five different Pioneers collected at least eight kills in a balanced offensive attack.
Veronica Gehring led the way with 10 kills,
Mallory Adams,
Hannah Eliason, and
Rachel Santos each posted nine kills, and
Faith Lau chipped in with eight, including five in the first set. Santos needed just 12 swings to total her nine kills, registering a career-best .750 attacking percentage. Setter
Cathryn Miller recorded 33 assists over the course of the match.

Defensively, Malone held the Senators to just 32 kills and a .058 hitting percentage. Adams paced the front line with four blocks while
Maggie Hamrock collected a match-high 12 digs in the back row.
Sydney Black added 10 digs while
Elizabeth Selleny totaled six digs in the third set.
