Malone University redshirt sophomore quarterback
Deandre Clayton has been named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Offensive Player of the Week after leading Malone to a 42-12 victory over Lake Erie College on Saturday night.

Clayton, a Lorton, Virginia native, completed 11 of 20 passes for 211 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for 106 yards on 17 carries and set the G-MAC single-game record for rushing yards by a quarterback. Clayton guided the offense to 24 first downs, seven scoring drives, and 467 total yards, which marked the most since week three of 2016. The 42 points by Malone were the most in a regulation game since 2013.

Through two games this season, Clayton is 36-of-61 through the air with 484 yards and three touchdown passes. He has added 118 yards on the ground for a Pioneer offense which currently ranks second in the G-MAC in scoring at 34.5 points per game.

Malone, now 1-1 on the season and 1-0 in the G-MAC, will be idle this weekend before heading to Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday, September 22nd.
