Malone Travels to Tiffin for Wednesday Tilt

Turner Hill is batting .444 (8-of-18) during a five game hit streak.

The Malone University baseball team will look to bolster its Midwest Region resume on Wednesday, April 11th when it makes a trip to Tiffin University for a nine-inning non-conference contest beginning at 2:00 pm. Note that Wednesday's game was moved back from the originally scheduled Tuesday start due to more favorable weather conditions.

The Pioneers, coming off a 2-1 weekend, are 21-10 overall and 12-9 in region. Malone was voted 10th in last week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Midwest Region Poll.

Malone Notes - Roster | Schedule | Stats
  • After defeating Hillsdale once on Saturday and then again in game one of a doubleheader Sunday, the Pioneers saw their six-game win streak snapped in a game two loss. The offense, which was shutout for the first time all season in the loss, will look to get back on track against a Tiffin pitching staff that ranks last in the GLIAC in team ERA.
  • Freshman rightfielder Turner Hill comes into the game on a five-game hitting streak. Hill, a .314 hitter this season, hit .500, collecting a team-high five hits in the three games vs. Hillsdale.
  • First baseman Todd Ropp and centerfielder Nate Cobb each went 3-for-10 (.300) in the series while Austin White, who leads the team with a .324 batting average, and Jacob Mottice each drove in two.
  • Freshman lefthander Clay Cooper is expected to get the starting nod against a Tiffin lineup that ranks last in the GLIAC in team batting average and on-base percentage.
  • Cooper has pitched well this season, striking out 19 in 22.1 innings pitched while producing a 1.21 WHIP. The Pioneers are 4-1 in the five games he has started.

Tiffin Notes - Roster | Schedule | Stats
  • The Dragons enter the week having lost six in a row and eight of their last nine. This past weekend, they surrendered 57 runs in a four-game series against Northwood.
  • Offensively, Tiffin is led by Brayden Callihan (.341 avg, .445 OBP) and John Heckman (.301, 3 HR, 15 RBI, .589 slugging).
