G-MAC Release
Malone University quarterback
Deandre Clayton has been named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Offensive Football Player of the Week for the second time this season following a record-breaking performance in a 38-34 win over Millersville University last Saturday.
Â
Clayton, a redshirt sophomore from Lorton, Virginia, accounted for 404 yards of offense and four touchdowns in the road victory. Through the air, Clayton completed 18-of-34 pass attempts for 260 yards, the second-most this season, and connected with wide receiver
Ashton Dulin on a pair of touchdown passes from six and 56 yards.
Â
The dual-threat quarterback did big-time damage on the ground, carrying the football 15 times for 144 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winning 12-yarder with 3:23 left to play. The 144 yards set both the G-MAC and Malone single-game record for most rushing yards by a quarterback. Now with eight rushing touchdowns on the year, he also set the Pioneers' single-season record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback.
Â
In total this season, Clayton has carried the ball 98 times for a team-high 408 yards and is tied for 4th in the league in rushing touchdowns. In the passing game, he has completed 115-of-208 pass attempts for 1,505 yards and nine touchdowns. Malone's Clayton-led offense is scoring 31.1 points per game this season, the highest average in the last nine years.
Â
The Pioneers, who have won two games in a season for the first time since 2013, will look for win number three this Saturday, October 27th when they host Alderson Broaddus at Tom Benson Stadium at 1:00 pm.
