Pioneers Defeated by McKendree on Day Two of Midwest Crossover

The Malone University volleyball team suffered its third-straight sweep on Saturday, falling in three sets to McKendree University on day two of the Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover at the Academy Volleyball Club in Indianapolis. The 17-25, 16-25, 20-25 defeat dropped Malone to 13-11 on the season.

Recap
The Malone defense, which has been fantastic all season, struggled against the Bearcats, who totaled 49 kills and produced a .298 attacking percentage – the third-highest by a Malone opponent this season. McKendree, who entered the Crossover with the number seven seed in the GLVC, hit a robust .567 in the second set.

Malone totaled just 31 team kills in the match and never led by more than two points. A 7-5 lead in the third set was quickly erased by an 8-0 McKendree run as the Pioneers went on to be swept for the third time this weekend.

Mallory Adams led the Malone attack with nine kills on a .409 hitting percentage. Veronica Gehring added eight kills, Hannah Eliason recorded seven, and Georgia Kiko chipped in with a handful. Cathryn Miller dished out 27 assists.

Maggie Hamrock paced the Malone defense with 16 digs while Faith Lau collected seven. Adams tallied four blocks to lead the way up front.

Up Next
Malone will travel to West Virginia next weekend to take on Alderson Broaddus and Davis & Elkins in a pair of G-MAC road matches.
