Two members of the Malone University baseball coaching staff were recently recognized for their accomplished playing careers and coaching achievements.

Head coach Tom Crank was inducted into the Tuscarawas County Cy Young Baseball Association Hall of Fame while pitching coach Kyle Hallock joined the Perkins High School Hall of Fame.

Crank will begin his 15th season as the Pioneers' head coach this spring.  Last year, Crank guided Malone to its best record (35-18) since joining NCAA Division II in 2012 and its third-straight postseason appearance.  Early last season, Crank achieved his 400th win as the Pioneer skipper and he enters the 2018 campaign with a 431-313-1 overall record. He trails only legendary head coach Bob Starcher (521-330-11) for the most wins in Malone baseball history.

Crank began his athletic career as a three-sport star at East Canton High School, where he lettered for the Hornets in baseball, football, and basketball. In 2004, Tom was inducted into the East Canton High School Football Hall of Fame.

While attending Malone, Crank continued his athletic pursuits on the baseball diamond as a four-year starter for the Pioneers and was inducted into the Malone Athletics Hall of Fame in January of 2007.

Crank graduated from Malone in 1988 with a Bachelor's degree in education.  He later returned to the classroom in 1999 and received his Master's degree from Malone in Physical Education and Sport.

After college, Tom continued his on-field exploits by playing 21 seasons in the Canton Class 'A' Baseball League. During that time, his teams won 11 League Championships.  Crank is also recognized as being one of only two players in Canton Class 'A' history to record over 1000 hits in league play.

As a member of the Wood Electric Baseball Team from 2004-2006, Crank was part of a sensational 80-game winning streak.  Tom also played on two Roy Hobbs Baseball World Series Championship teams (2001 and 2004) and, in 2001, was named as the Roy Hobbs World Series Most Valuable Player.

Crank resides in Louisville, Ohio with his wife and childhood sweetheart, Linda, and their two sons, Jon and Joe.

Hallock is in his fourth year as Malone's pitching coach.  Since Hallock's arrival, the Pioneers are averaging 30 wins per season, have qualified three consecutive years to the conference tournament and earned a conference championship game appearance in 2017

The 2017 pitching staff finished the season 14th in the country with a 3.32 Earned Run Average, which was tops in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference

In the summer of 2014, Coach Hallock managed a championship pitching staff for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox of the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League. Baseball America ranked four Red Sox pitchers in its Top 30 Cape Cod League Baseball Prospect List, including Walker Buehler at #1 overall.

As a player, Hallock was selected in the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft twice, named Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Year, a Second Team All-American and four-time MAC champion for the Golden Flashes of Kent State. After signing with Houston Astros in the 10th Round in 2011, Hallock was named an Organizational All-Star by Milb.com, New York Penn League All-Star and climbed through the minor league ranks reaching the AAA level while throwing a no hitter on Mother's Day for Houston's High A affiliate Lancaster Jethawks of the California League.

Coach Hallock graduated with a Sport Administration degree from Kent State University (2011) and a Masters of Business Administration from Malone University (2016). He resides in Louisville, Ohio with his wife Morgan and their son Keegan.
