Results
The Malone University cross country teams both earned Top 5 overall finishes on Friday afternoon at the All-Ohio Cross Country Championships.
At Cedarville University's Elvin King Cross Country Course, the Pioneer men had the top performance among non-Division I schools. Malone placed fourth overall among 38 teams with 167 points. The University of Dayton claimed the overall men's title with an impressive total of 27 points. The University of Akron was second with 79 points and Ohio University took third with 93 points.
On the women's side, Malone had the second-best showing among non-Division I teams as the squad took fifth overall with 183 points. Dayton made it a sweep of the men's and women's titles as the Flyers posted 26 points to capture the women's overall trophy. Ohio was second on the women's side with 85 points. Walsh University was third with 145 and Akron placed fourth with 177. Cedarville University, which entered the event ranked 10th in the latest NCAA Division II National Poll, was sixth, four point behind Malone with 187.
Individually for the Malone men,
Nate Boyer placed 14th among over 300 competitors, blazing through the 8K course in a time of 25:22.0.
George McCartney was next, taking 27th in 25:40.3.
Brett Cortelletti was 39th in 25:54.5,
Noah Chaplik placed 41st in 25:58.1 and
Zach Fresenko took 46th in 26:02.8. Also competing for the Pioneers was
Noah Whittington (26:06.4),
Lorne Strausbaugh (26:29.8),
Joey Coudriet (26:46.1), and
Nick Chaplik (27:19.8).
Jade Smith led the way for the Pioneer women, placing 7th among over 340 entrants in the 6K race with a mark of 21:46.7 .
Hannah Thompson was 13th in 22:02.2 followed by
Hannah Campbell in 33rd with a time of 22:34.9.
Rachel Wentworth took 64th in 23:05.2 while
Rachel Koons was 68th in 23:06.6. Other competitors for Malone included
Jasmine Penrod (23:11.4),
Laura Tweedie (23:31.9),
Clare Willett (24:18.0), and
Allie Dalton (24:27.8).
Both Malone teams will be back in action on October 7th in Romeoville, Illinois at Lewis University's Conference Crossover Meet.
