CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Malone University men's and women's cross country programs took on the best that the state of Ohio has to offer on Friday at the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Classic, hosted by Cedarville University. The Pioneer men placed third overall and the women eighth. The host Yellow Jackets swept the men's and women's races.
The Malone men were led by
Hayden Schmidt with a time of 25:17.1. He was 15th overall and set a new personal record by four seconds.
Xander Heil was just two spots back in 17th at 25:18.2, a massive improvement from his best 8k mark.
Tyler Twining set a new record as well at 25:34.4 (23rd).
Yahya Jawadi (29th) and
Alex Hill (39th) were the final two scoring members for the team. Jawadi's time of 25:38.8 is a new personal best and Hill finished with a time of 25:46.9.
On the women's side,
Kristin Yeager was the first Pioneer to cross the finish line in the 6k race at 23:05.2. She set a new personal best time as well and finished 28th.
Jenna Cassidy and
Rebekah Stoneman were side-by-side for Malone in 53rd (23:40.6) and 54th (23:42.0) with a new career-low time for Stoneman.
Olivia Szmania placed 74th (24:05.3) and
Carolyn Miller 112th (24:53.7).
Next weekend, the Pioneers are in action close to home at the YSU Invitational #2 in Youngstown, Ohio on September 27.
