The Malone University men's and women's track & field teams took part in the University of Mt. Union's John Homon Open on Saturday afternoon.
Senior thrower
Duke Taylor had a strong showing in the discus as he improved his NCAA Division II National Championship provisional qualifying position and broke the Great Midwest Athletic Conference record for the second time this year with a winning heave of 180' 9.5" (55.11 meters).
Taylor also earned a third-place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 182' 3.75".
Additional Men's Highlights
Ashton Dulin won the 400-meter hurdles in 54.32 seconds and finished runner-up in the 110-meter hurdles with a mark of 14.60 seconds
Ja'Vonne Brashears placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 43' 11.5".
In the 10,000 meters,
Andrew Currier took fifth in 35:35.36 while
Andrew Nye was sixth in 35:50.39.
Joshua Woika earned a fifth-place finish in the high jump with a leap of 6' 2.25".
Women's Highlights
Rebekah Carr took over the No. 9 position on Malone's all-time performance list in the 400 meters after placing third with a time of 58.62 seconds.Â
Katie Grimes placed fifth in 59.06 seconds and Elisha Copper was sixth in 1:00.19.
Erika Rector took second in the 800 meters in 2:17.21. She also placed fifth in the 1500 meters with a mark of 4:50.97.

Elisha Cooper,
Paiten Strother and
Jaylyn Vance finished runner-up in the 4 x 100-meter relay with a time of 49.41 seconds.
Malone also took runner-up in the 4 x 400-meter relay as Grimes,
Maggie Poorman, Carr and Rector posted a time of 3:59.82.
Jade Smith,
Hannah Thompson and
Rachel Koons all established personal records in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Smith finished third in the race and grabbed the No. 8 position on the Pioneers' all-time performance list with a time of 11:31.56. Thompson was right behind in fourth with a mark of 11:33.29 and Koons took seventh in 12:15.38.
Strother also competed in the long jump, placing fifth in 17' 5.75".
