The Malone University men's and women's track and field teams began competition at High Point University's VertKlasse Meeting on Friday in High Point, North Carolina.
Women's Highlights
Hannah Thompson and
Jade Smith both posted personal records in the 5000 meters. Thompson finished sixth in a time of 17:44.81 while Smith was right behind in seventh with a mark of 17:53.79.
Other 5000-meter finishes included
Hannah Campbell in 16th (18:37.59),
Laura Tweedie in 23rd (18:50.66) and
Erin Moomaw in 26th (19:06.06).
Kelsey Veldhuizen took 24th in the javelin with a mark of 84' 10.25".
Men's Highlights
Brett Cortelletti registered a seventh-place performance in the 5000 meters with a mark of 15:35.27.
Noah Whittington also posted a Top 25 finish, placing 22nd in 15:48.52.
Joshua Woika finished in a tie for eighth in the high jump with a leap of 6' 0.5".
In the 3000-meter steeplechase,
George McCartney took ninth with a mark of 10:00.21.
Ezekiel Neihart was 19th in 10:37.12 while
Daniel Carmany placed 26th in 11:05.79.
Ja'Vonne Brashears notched a 23rd-place showing in the long jump with a mark of 20' 9.75".

Malone athletes will continue competition at the VertKlasse Meeting on Saturday. In addition, the Pioneer throwers will take part in the Carnegie Mellon University Quad Meet in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Saturday.
