Football To Host Educator Appreciation Night At Thursday’s Game

Preview Notes For Thursday's Contest

This Thursday, the Malone University football team will hold an Educator Appreciation Night to honor the teachers and professors that have made an influence on the lives of the student-athletes and non-athletes alike. As a way of thanks, any teacher from northeast Ohio (college, high school, middle school, or elementary school) who presents a staff ID will receive free entry to Thursday's game. Malone will take on the University of Findlay at 7:00 pm at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.

Malone head coach Fred Thomas began the initiative as a way for student-athletes to acknowledge what educators have done for their lives both in and out of the classroom. Thomas, whose wife Mia is an educator and also coaches volleyball at Massillon Perry High School, knows full well the value and positive impact that teachers can make. "Next to my family, my teachers and coaches were the most influential people in my life," he expressed.

As part of the initiative, Thomas asked the twelve graduating seniors to identify a Malone professor who has made the greatest impact in their lives.

Jonathon Zimmerly, has a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and is pursuing a Masters in Organizational Leadership. He has chosen to recognize Dr. Jeff Goff. "Dr. Goff did a great job of explaining the course material and making sure that students understood. He cares deeply for his students and always did a great job of integrating his faith into the course material."

Josh Correll, a Business Administration and Marketing major, recognized Professional in Residence Frank Alexander. "Frank truly cares about his students and it shows."

Joe Turner, a History and Communications major, recognized Professor Ann Lawson. "Ann Lawson is a great friend to all of her students.  Her love of faith and learning has inspired me. She has always been my biggest fan in both academics and athletics."

Drew Shreve, a Middle Childhood Education, History and English major, recognized Dr. Beth Clark-Thomas. "Beth has been a mentor to me throughout my four years. She is an excellent professor and because of her I have learned a lot about my field."

Obrempong Oppong, a Business Administration and Sports Management major, recognized Frank Alexander. "Over the years Frank has continually offered guidance to me and the rest of his students on what life is like in the real world. He has also offered to help students find jobs and is very interested in our thoughts and feelings about our field of work."

Roy Johnson, a Sports Management major, recognized Dr. Steve Wirick. "Dr. Wirick always tries to keep the classroom engaged and cares about his students."

Jordan Johnson, a Business Administration, Marketing, and Sports Management major, recognized Dr. Jason Moyer. "Jason pushed me to be a better student freshman year and even into my senior year. What he has taught me has made me into the student that I am today. He gave me a chance to be a very good speaker in the business world."

John Iacucci, a Social Work major, recognized Dr. Gary Colledge. "Dr. Colledge is one of the most knowledgeable and wise people that I have ever met, but he carries himself with great humility. His theology class challenged and shaped my faith through questioning research and biblical realization."

Brenson Ennis, has a Bachelor in History and Communication Arts and is pursuing a Masters in Organizational Leadership. He has chosen to recognize Dr. Jacci Stuckey-Welling. "Jacci takes time out to help her students understand. She also goes out of her way to help make her students better people."

Eian Elsass, a Business Administration major, recognized Frank Alexander. "Despite Franks age, he is 100%, all the time, full of energy. He brings his knowledge and life experience to every class that he teaches which really makes him extraordinary."

Daniel Tepe, a Business Administration and Marketing major, recognized Dr. Julia Frankland. "Dr. Frankland has been an amazing teacher and advisor. She always has her students' best interest in mind and she has been the one who helped me get through my four years here at Malone. I have always enjoyed her classes and learned more than I expected to."

Ryan Weber, a Zoology major, recognized Dr. Jason Courter. "Jason teaches with a passion and really cares about his students. He has taught me a lot through the courses I have taken and the research I conducted with him."
