The Malone University baseball team was swept in a doubleheader by Walsh University Wednesday afternoon by the finals of 6-1 and 8-4. With the losses, Malone dropped to 16-13 on the season and 8-4 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC). The Pioneers still maintain a two-game cushion in the win column over Walsh in the GLIAC South

Game One Recap:The Pioneers tallied the game's first run in the bottom of the fourth in a tightly contested pitcher's duel.
Brenden Wells' RBI single off of lefty sidewinder Matt Iosue put Malone up 1-0.

The visitors broke through with a big-five run inning in the top of the fifth. After limiting Walsh to a lone hit over the first four innings, Malone starter
Tyler Whitlatch (4-1) gave up six base hits as the Cavaliers took a 5-1 lead.

Malone managed just two base hits in the final three innings and failed to produce a run. The Cavaliers tacked on a run in the seventh and held on the for the 6-1 victory.

Brenden Wells and
Matt Davis each finished with two hits while
Keanan Locke extended his hitting streak to 17 games with a leadoff single. An 0-for-5 day in game two brought Locke's streak to an end.

Game Two Recap:Walsh used a four-run top of the fourth to break open a scoreless ball game. The Cavaliers added runs in the fifth and sixth innings while Malone used an RBI groundout from
Matt Davis to score their first run in the bottom of the fifth.

Still up 6-1 in the ninth, Walsh crossed the plate two more times to give them a seven-run advantage heading in to the Pioneers' final at bat.

Malone gave Walsh all it could handle in the bottom of the ninth. Back-to-back RBI singles from Wells and
Ryan Sarbaugh made it an 8-3 ball game before a bases-loaded walk brought the Pioneers to within four with the tying run at the plate.

Representing the tying run,
Austin Pachan grounded out to second base to end the ball game and give Walsh the two-game sweep.

Richie Mast,
Matt Noel, and
Brenden Wells each collected two hits for the Pioneers. With hits in both games, Wells extended his hitting-streak to 10.

Up Next:Malone will travel to Michigan to face Saginaw Valley State University for a pair of GLIAC doubleheaders this weekend (April 16 &17). Saturday's twinbill will begin at 12:00 pm.
