Baseball Preview Notes: Pioneers Set for Three Games Against Findlay

A doubleheader originally scheduled for Saturday will now be played on Friday starting at 3:00 pm.

The Malone University baseball team will face the University of Findlay on Friday, March 18th in a doubleheader starting at 3:00 pm before meeting Findlay again on Saturday, March 19th for a single nine-inning tilt starting at 10:00 am. All three games will be played in Beckley, West Virginia at Linda K. Epling Stadium. The Pioneers were originally scheduled to play a single game on Friday and a doubleheader on Saturday, but due to weather concerns, the order of games was re-arranged.

Malone Notes: 
  • The Pioneers are winners of four of their last five including a 7-5 win over Northern State (SD) last Saturday in their last game of spring break
  • Through 11 games, Malone is 2nd in the GLIAC in team batting average (.335)...eight Pioneers are hitting .290 or better
  • Centerfielder Keanan Locke is 2nd in the GLIAC in hitting (.449) and 4th in stolen bases (6)
  • Catcher Matt Davis is 5th in the conference in batting average (.429) and 3rd in on-base percentage (.511)
  • Third baseman Jon Crank (.325) is 3rd in the GLIAC in homeruns (4) and 4th in RBI (16)
  • First baseman Derek Carmichael (.378, .442 OBP), shortstop Richie Mast (.354, .380 OBP), and outfielders Brenden Wells (.314, .400 OBP), Ryan Froman (.308, 11 RBI), and Daulton Ritter (.290, .330 OBP) are all off to solid starts in 2015
  • Starting pitchers Tyler Whitlatch (1-0, 2.45 ERA, 14 K), Roscoe Blackburn (1-1, 5.00 ERA), and Braun Miller (1-0, 2.61 ERA, 12 K) are all expected to toe the rubber this weekend
  • Miller tossed a gem in his last outing, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out seven in 6.1 innings pitched in a 10-0 win over Southwest Minnesota State last Friday
     
Findlay Notes:
  • Findlay is coming off a 12-9 victory over Cedarville on Wednesday
  • Through 11 games, the Oilers are leading the GLIAC with a 3.98 ERA
  • Austin Rodesky (3-0) leads the conference in innings pitched (23.0) and strikeouts (35) and ranks second in ERA (1.17)
  • Colin Gassard (0-1, 2.40 ERA) is second on the team in both ERA and strikeouts (14)
  • The offense is led by Austin Adams (.357 BA), Justin Schwerer (.325), and Derrick Herd (.321)…Schwerer leads the team with seven stolen bases while Peter Yorgen has a team-high eight RBI.
