Women's Basketball Notes: Pioneers Set for Rematches with Lake Erie and Ashland

Alahna Singleton recorded her first career double-double (12 points, 12 rebounds) against Lake Erie last season

The Malone University women's basketball team starts the second half of its GLIAC South schedule with a home rematch against Lake Erie College this Thursday, February 4th at 6:00 pm. The Pioneers will then play their 5th game in 10 days when they travel to NCAA Division II #3 Ashland on Saturday, February 6th for a 1:00 pm tipoff.

Malone Notes: 
  • The Pioneers, who are coming off a 60-49 loss to Walsh on Monday, are in search of their first GLIAC South victory after starting 0-7...in earlier season matchups, Lake Erie sank the Pioneers 52-46...two days later Ashland edged Malone 97-84
  • In the loss to Lake Erie, the Pioneers led 41-32 heading into the 4th quarter, but were outscored 20-5 in the final frame
  • Malone netted 16 threes and scored more points against Ashland than any other team has all season, but the nationally-ranked Eagles answered with their highest-scoring output in two seasons
  • Chrissie Vaughan followed up an 11-point effort against Lake Erie with a team-high 19 points against Ashland...the freshman guard is providing 10.7 points per night...she is 3rd in the conference in made three-pointers and 2nd in minutes per game (33.3)
  • Rachel Goddard is 1st in the GLIAC in minutes played (35.8 mpg) and 4th in assists (82), including a career-high 13 assists against Ashland...Goddard leads the Pioneers with 13.5 ppg...the 5'7" junior has gone to the free throw line more than any other GLIAC guard this season...over her last eight games, Goddard is shooting 92.6% (25-of-27) at the charity stripe
  • Tara Schaffter scored 17 points against Ashland and a career-high 20 points at Walsh on Monday...the senior forward is averaging 16.5 points and 7 rebounds in the last two games...on the season, Schaffter is averaging 11.5 ppg and 4.1 rpg
  • Senior forward Bri Libertore scored a career-high 16 points against Ashland...on the season Libertore checks in with 7.3 points and team-leading 6.4 rebounds an outing
  • Alahna Singleton, who missed both earlier games with Lake Erie and Ashland, averaged 14 points and 8.5 rebounds in two games against Lake Erie a season ago...in six games this season, the sophomore guard is contributing 10.8 points and 3.2 boards a night

  • Since the win over Malone, the Storm are 2-4, winning games over Findlay (73-64) and Tiffin (61-49) but more recently dropping contests against GLIAC South leaders Ohio Dominican (73-63) and Ashland (80-35)
  • Against the Pioneers, 5'0" senior Sami Narducci scored a game-high 12 points...the diminutive guard is averaging 5.6 points per game and is 12th in the GLIAC with 37 steals...she leads the team with 59 assists
  • Sophomore Kayla Gabor is tied with Narducci with 37 steals and leads the team with 5.2 rebounds per game...the 5'10" guard leads the conference in field goal attempts and is 6th in scoring with 15.0 ppg...Gabor has notched 21 or more points in four of her last six games
  • Sophomore post presence Christine Dawson (6.7ppg, 4.1 rpg) is no.1 in the GLIAC with 40 blocked shots
  • Senior guard Shelby Carpenter is second on team in scoring (9.5 ppg) ...despite not recording a steal against Malone, Carpenter is third in the GLIAC and 6th in NCAA DII with 65 steals on the season
  • As a team, Lake Erie is 1st in the GLIAC and 9th in the nation, averaging 11.9 steals per contest...the scrappy squad has recorded 10 or more thefts in seven of their last eight games
  • The Storm are forcing teams into 21.6 turnovers a night and are 7th in the country with a +6.7 per-game turnover margin
  • In victory over Malone, Lake Erie forced the Pioneers into 19 turnovers while committing just six of their own

Ashland Notes:
  • Ashland is one of three remaining unbeatens in NCAA Division II, outscoring teams by 20.0 points a night
  • The GLIAC's no.1 scoring offense (77.8 ppg) is third in the nation in assists per game (20.0) and 4th in field goal shooting percentage (47.9)...against Malone, the Eagles scored a season-high 97 points while shooting 55.7% and recording a near school-record 31 assists
  • Defensively, the Eagles are allowing just 57.8 ppg and are second in the GLIAC in opponents field goal percentage (38.5), 2nd in steals per game (11.0), and 4th in blocks per game (3.6)...nationally, Ashland is 13th in rebounding margin (+8.9) and 3rd, just behind Malone, in fewest personal fouls (13.6)
  • The dynamic duo of sophomores Andi Daugherty (16.0 ppg) and Laina Snyder (15.0 ppg) lead a talented Ashland roster that features just one senior in the starting five
  • Daugherty, the 2014-15 GLIAC Freshman of the Year, is 4th in the GLIAC in points, 9th in rebounds (7.4 rpg), and 13th in blocks (20)
  • In addition to ranking 6th in the conference in scoring, Snyder is 5th in the conference in rebounds (9.1 rpg) and blocks (31)...the 6'1" forward is currently 4th in the nation with 69 steals
  • Senior McKenzie Miller bucketed six threes and scored a career-high 26 against Malone...the 5'10 guard is scoring 10.0 points a night and leads the GLIAC with 90 assists
  • Junior guard Alex Henning (8.4 ppg) is 5th in the GLIAC in assists (80) and 6th in steals (46)
  • Junior guard Kelsey Peare (6.7 ppg) leads the Eagles in minutes played (30.0) and rounds out Eagles' starting five
  • Ashland is the only team in the GLIAC that has started the same five players in every game this season
