Stats
- The Pioneers are looking for win no.2 after defeating Slippery Rock 71-69 on Wednesday for their first win of the season. Over the previous two seasons, Malone went a combined 3-14 in the game following a win.
- In the win over Slippery Rock, senior guard Rachel Goddard recorded her second double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 assists. She also committed zero turnovers. Through four games, she's dished out 30 assists compared to just four turnovers. She ranks 2nd in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio (7.5) and 4th in assists per game (7.5 apg).
- In NCAA DII this season, there have been 31 games where a player has recorded at least 10 assists, Goddard is one of two players to also commit zero turnovers and the only player to do so against an NCAA team.
- Hannah McCue registered a double-double against Slippery Rock as well, scoring a game-high 23 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. McCue ranks 8th in the country with 9.0 defensive rebounds per game.
- Junior forward Baylen Dyrlund reached double digits with 10 points against SRU and is averaging 15.0 ppg on the season.
- Malone is one of five teams in the country with three players averaging at least 13.8 points. McCue (15.5 ppg), Dyrlund (15.0 ppg), and Goddard (13.8 ppg) are the only trio to do so for a team scoring fewer than 72 points a game. The Pioneers are averaging 67.0 points per contest.
- With the big three handling the bulk of the scoring, sophomore Chrissie Vaughan (7.3 ppg) has settled in nicely as the fourth option. Vaughan has hit three three-pointers while shooting over 40% from deep in each of the past three games. She had five such games as a freshman.
- The second unit of Naomi Grandison, Mackenzie Storlie, Holly Groff, Natalie Nickol, and Dani Drayer combined for a season-high 14 bench points in the win over Slippery Rock. The Pioneer bench should see extensive run this weekend when it takes on a winless Bluefield State squad that has led for a total of 83 seconds through its first seven games this season.
