Carr Breaks School Record; Multiple Pioneers Finish in Top Ten at KSU

Erika Rector earned a third-place finish in the 1000 meters on Saturday

Results

The Malone University indoor track and field teams completed competition at Kent State University's Golden Flash Gala on Saturday. The team competed in twelve events on the second and final day of the event.
 
Highlighting the day was local freshman, Rebekah Carr, who broke the Malone University school record in the 300 Meter Dash with a time of 41.89 seconds. Her time was good enough for 6th in today's event as well. Taryn Chapman moved up to 7th all-time at Malone with her time of 42.50 in the event. Chapman came in eighth in Saturday's race.
 
Three runners found their way onto Malone's all-time list in the 500 Meter Dash. Katie Grimes came in sixth at Kent with a time of 1:18.58, which is now second at Malone all-time. Following Grimes was Emily Luli in seventh place with a time of 1:19.19, which is now fourth-best at Malone. Coming in 12th at today's race was Amber Murphy. Murphy's time of 1:21.65 is eighth all-time at Malone.
 
Erika Rector (pictured above) had the highest placement on the day on the women's team, coming in third in the 1,000 Meters with a time of 3:05.00. Emily O'Dell finished in 7th place in the event with a time of 3:11.50.
 
Kelsey Veldhuizen made it to the finals in the 60 Meter Hurdles, where she finished 7th with a time of 9.91. Taryn Chapman finished 9th with a time of 9.68.
 
Lorne Strausbaugh and Scott Whitaker had the two highest placements for the men's team on Saturday, both in the 3,000 Meter Run. Strausbaugh finished second with a time of 8:43.29 while Whitaker finished third with a time of 8:43.32.
 
Joshua Woika went a height of 6' 0.75'' in the high jump on Saturday, good enough for 7th in Saturday's event.
 
Daniel Brown and Joshua Easley have now written their names on Malone's Top Ten list in the 60 meter hurdles. Brown finished with a final time of 8.64 which was seventh at Saturday's race, and sixth at Malone. Easley finished in 12th today. His time of 8.83 is seventh at Malone.
 
Ja'Vonne Brashears ran his way into Malone's Top Ten list as well, running a time of 7.13 in the 60 meter dash. His time was 12th at Saturday's race and sixth all-time at Malone. Brashears also placed 7th in the long jump on Saturday with a distance of 20' 3.6''.
 
The Malone University indoor track and field teams will be back in action on January 13th at the Northwest Ohio Invitational in Findlay, Ohio.
