Women's Basketball Notes: Pioneers Travel to Michigan for Two GLIAC Contests

Tara Schaffter set a career-high with five assists in a win over Ohio Valley

The Malone University women's basketball team will begin 2016 on the road as the Pioneers travel to Michigan to meet Saginaw Valley State University on Saturday, January 2nd at 1:00 pm before squaring off with Hillsdale College on Sunday, January 3rd at 2:00 pm.

  • Defensively, the Cardinals are holding teams to the third lowest scoring ouptut in the GLIAC (60.7 ppg) and are limiting opponents to just 37.2% shooting from the field ...their opponents' 21.7% three-point shooting percentage ranks 7th lowest in the nation
  • Offensively, SVSU is scoring 71.0 points per night on the GLIAC's 4th best field goal percentage (44.2)
  • 2014-15 All-GLIAC Second Team honoree Emily Wendling is 1st in the conference in scoring (19.8 ppg), 2nd in FG percentage (62.0), 5th in rebounds (9.4 rpg), and 9th in blocks (1.2 bpg)...the defending GLIAC North Player of the Week is 21st in NCAA DII in scoring and 7th in shooting percentage

  • The Chargers come in ranked number one in the GLIAC in FG attempts per game (65.9), rebounds (46.7) and offensive rebounds (17.8)...they are 2nd in rebounding margin (+7.9) and steals (12.5)
  • Hillsdale is currently 8th in NCAA DII in total rebounds, 9th in offensive rebounds, 12th in steals, and 22nd in rebounding margin
  • The Charger's substitution-heavy rotation features just one player with over 20 minutes per game and 14 players averaging at least 10 minutes per game
  • Allie Dittmer (5.9 rpg), Kayla Geffert (5.1 rpg), and Maddy Reed (4.9 rpg) lead the rebounding charge
