Malone University assistant head football coach and offensive coordinator Joel Penner has resigned to accept the head coach position at Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa.

Penner served as the offensive coordinator under Pioneer head coach Eric Hehman for the past four seasons.  Prior to his time at Malone, Penner spent the previous three years as the offensive coordinator at Northwestern College, located in Orange City, Iowa just 11 miles from Dordt's campus.

"Joel is an extremely intelligent and detail-oriented football coach," noted Pioneer Athletic Director Charlie Grimes.  "He is more than prepared to be a great head coach.  We are pleased to have been a part of his development and greatly appreciate his service to Malone and our student-athletes over the past four years."

Hehman shares Grimes' appreciation and knows Penner is ready to make a positive impact at Dordt.  "Not only is Joel a great coach and recruiter, he is a great friend," commented Hehman.  "He and his family will certainly be missed, but I am very excited for this opportunity for him to be a head coach. I know he will make a difference on and off the field."
